Quotes Worth Pondering – Paul David Tripp

QuotesWorthPondering“Grace will bless you with deeper comforts than you’ve ever known before, but it won’t let you be comfortable. God’s goal isn’t that you’d be comfortable, but that you’d be transformed.”

We are very much creatures of comfort. What  do you need to do today to move out of your comfort zone? What risk do you need to take knowing that the Lord has been very gracious to you and desires that you live a transformed life not a conformed life?

Quotes Worth Pondering – George Whitfield

Watch carefully over thy heart, O Christian; and whenever thou perceivest thyself to be falling into a spiritual slumber, say to it, as Christ to his disciples, “Arise (my soul) why sleepest thou?”

What answer would you give to the question, “what are the causes of a spiritual slumber?” Here are a few that come to my mind: boredom, entanglement in sin, neglect of fellowship with believers, avoiding the voice of God – whether it be reading Scripture of preaching. If you find yourself in a spiritual slumber take some time to figure out why this might be true and then resolve to WAKE UP!

Quotes Worth Pondering – William Gurnall

QuotesWorthPonderingFurnish thyself with arguments from the promises to enforce thy prayers, and make them prevalent with God. The promises are the ground of faith, and faith, when strengthened, will make thee fervent, and such fervency ever speeds and returns with victory out of the field of prayer… The mightier any is in the Word, the more mighty he will be in prayer.

Quotes Worth Pondering – Denny Burk

QuotesWorthPonderingWe live in sad times. But the debacle of the 2016 presidential election is not the cause of our times. It is the sign of our times. And we need to have our eyes wide open to the world and our hearts full of gospel joy and our feet swift to our great work. This does not mean a retreat from public life or from our democratic stewardship. It just means that we know where we have pinned our hopes for this life and the next. And believing that, we bear witness to a coming King who will one day make all things new (Rev. 21:5). For here we have no lasting city, but we are seeking a city which is to come (Heb. 13:14).

Quotes Worth Pondering – R.C. Sproul

QuotesWorthPonderingThe most violent expression of God’s wrath and justice is seen in the Cross. If ever a person had room to complain for injustice, it was Jesus. He was the only innocent man ever to be punished by God. If we stagger at the wrath of God, let us stagger at the Cross. Here is where our astonishment should be focused.

Quotes Worth Pondering – Cornelius Plantinga Jr.

QuotesWorthPondering“All forms of idolatry involve us deeply in folly. All idolatry is not only treacherous but also futile. Human desire, deep and restless and seemingly unfulfillable, keeps stuffing itself with finite goods, but these cannot satisfy.

If we try to fill our hearts with anything besides the God of the universe, we find that we are overfed but undernourished, and we find that day by day, week by week, year after year, we are thinning down to a mere outline of a human being.”

Quotes Worth Pondering – John Piper

QuotesWorthPonderingNone of us has arrived at perfect satisfaction in God. I grieve often over the murmuring of my heart at the loss of worldly comforts. But I have tasted that the Lord is good. By God’s grace I now know the fountain of everlasting joy. And so I love to spend my days luring people into joy until they say with me, “One thing have I asked of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple” (Psalm 27:4).
